Premier League giants Manchester City have been linked with a whole host of talented fullbacks as they look to replace the injured Benjamin Mendy in the January transfer window.
With that in mind Patrick Van Aanholt is the latest name on Pep Guardiola’s wish list, according to the Mail, but the Dutch left back comes from the league’s most porous defence in Crystal Palace. The Eagles have conceded 24 times in 12 games during this campaign, a figure only matched by struggling Everton.
The 27-year old is perhaps more valuable to Guardiola for his attacking potential however, though so far this season he is yet to register a goal or an assist.
It was during his time at Sunderland that Van Aanholt displayed his offensive threat, scoring four times and adding a further three assists in the 2015/16 Premier League season.
Manchester City meanwhile have the second best defensive record in the English top flight having conceded just seven goals, but there is a definite whole that needs filling in the left side of the Citizens’ back line.
The Dutch international would reportedly cost the Manchester club upwards of £12m with all the add-ons, which represents relatively good value in the current footballing climate, and if there is anyone that can turn Van Aanholt into a world beater it’s Pep Guardiola.
