Champions League-winning left back and current Southampton man Ryan Bertrand could be set for a move to Manchester as Pep Guardiola seeks a replacement for the injured Benjamin Mendy, according to the Guardian.

Bertrand won the Champions League during his time at Chelsea, making his debut in the Blues’ final win over Bayern Munich, and made the switch to the south coast in 2015 when he signed for Southampton.

Since his move Bertrand has excelled in the left back role for the Saints, bagging two goals and four assists in the Premier League last season as part of a defence that kept an impressive 14 clean sheets. His success didn’t go unnoticed by the England hierarchy and the fullback has earned 17 caps for his country since 2012.

Bertrand’s talent also hasn’t gone unnoticed by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola who is in the market for a left-sided defender following the long-term injury to summer signing Benjamin Mendy. The French wingback will be sidelined until April so finding a replacement is top of Guardiola’s priority list in January.

With the 2018 World Cup coming up a move to a top club could be beneficial for Bertrand as he looks to challenge Aaron Cresswell and Danny Rose for the starting spot in Russia next summer.
