Burnley have been the surprise package of this Premier League season, and their exploits have not gone unnoticed by some of the top flight’s conventionally bigger teams. The Clarets currently sit sixth in the table, just two points off a Champions League spot, and their defence has been imperious thus far.
James Tarkowski has emerged as a stalwart in Sean Dyche’s back line, and has played every minute in the league as part of a Burnley defence that has conceded just 12 times in this campaign.
Being a key member of the joint best defence in the English top flight has unsurprisingly gained the centre half a number of admirers, and with every good performance he is getting closer to earning a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
The Gunners sit one place above the Clarets despite having conceded eight more goals, and injuries to Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny during this season have given Arsene Wenger his fair share of difficulty at the back.
City meanwhile are without first choice centre half John Stones due to a hamstring injury, and will need to ensure their defence stay strong as they continue their title push.
