It is little secret to most of the footballing world that Premier League giants Manchester City are after a central defender in this January transfer window, and the man now at the top of manager Pep Guardiola’s shopping list is Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti, according to the Mirror.

Reports suggest that the defender has asked for some time to consider his options after discussions with the Cityzens. With a release clause of €60m, and the prices of defenders having skyrocketed in the past few months, Umtiti could be a good value purchase for Guardiola.

The French international has become a hugely important players in the heart of the Blaugrana defence, despite only being in his second season with the club. Umtiti has already won the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa with Barca, and the Catalan super club look to be on their way to a La Liga title this season.

Manchester City meanwhile lead the Premier League by 15 points, but have had a whole carrousel of injuries in defence during this campaign. In order to keep up their title push it is little surprise that Guardiola wants to bolster his squad, and Umtiti would be a phenomenal addition to the Cityzens.
